Application Guideline for Transfer Students – How to Apply for a Higher LAS Semester

LAS has a limited number of places and is a coherent program with a Foundational First Year. If you would like to transfer to LAS, we recommend you apply for the first year. Credit recognition from previous studies is possible once you are registered as an LAS student.

Transfer into a higher semester is only possible if capacity is available in the semester you want to apply for. Currently, it is only possible to apply for the fourth semester of studies or higher. For further details on applying for a higher semester please consult the official guideline of the University.

Submitting your (online) LAS transfer application comprises three steps:

1. Recognition of Your Qualifications

Please submit the following documentation of your previous university studies to studyinfo@ucf.uni-freiburg.de:

  • Your university transcript; please note that some of your university courses may be required for the recognition of your University entrance qualification by the University’s International Admissions and Services. These courses then cannot be submitted for credit recognition in the LAS Program.
  • A syllabus of each individual course with information regarding credit points, contents, examination, and workload (hours).
  • A list of LAS modules that could be fulfilled with credits from previous studies.

The prerequisites for transfer into a higher LAS semester are defined in the University Admissions Regulations and listed below in English; for details on the respective LAS courses and modules, please see the Module Handbook. If applicable, the Board of Examiners will issue a placement recommendation based on your previous academic achievements that you can upload to the application portal (see step 2).
