Waleed Elsharkawy – Lecturer Governance
Waleed is a political philosopher with an interdisciplinary background in philosophy, politics, and economics from the University of Padua, the University of Tübingen, and Beni-Suef University. As lecturer in the Major Governance, he teaches courses on political theory and ideologies. His pedagogical approach emphasizes discussion-based classes and debates, encouraging students to engage in critical thinking, open inquiry, and the in-depth exploration of complex ideas.
Waleed's research and teaching lie at the intersection of politics, economics, and philosophy, examining how these forces shape both individual and collective human experiences. He particularly focuses on the role of emotions, such as fear, in political landscapes, exploring how these sentiments are strategically mobilized to influence public perception and political positions.
His work also critically investigates authoritarian regimes, analyzing how these systems influence the political imagination of their citizens, shaping intellectual and emotional landscapes to secure their control across generations. Drawing on both Western and Islamic philosophical traditions, including figures such as Leo Strauss and Al-Farabi, Waleed brings a cross-cultural perspective to political philosophy's foundations, broadening contemporary discourse and connecting historical insights to modern challenges.
