LAS Application – Application Essay Guideline

The essay is an important part of your LAS application. It is your opportunity to show how you approach and answer the essay question.

The essay must be no longer than 500 words and written in English. As stated in the Admissions Regulations, it will be evaluated according to the following three criteria:

1. independent, comprehensible argumentation,
2. structured and clear expression,
3. correct external form and spelling

Keep in mind that there is not one correct answer to the essay question. Several approaches are possible. We are most interested in reading your own ideas and arguments about the essay question.

You are free to structure your essay any way you like, but keep in mind that a comprehensible structure is one of the evaluation criteria.
