LAS Ambassador Kutayba

Meet Kutayba!

Who are you?
I am Kutayba, 26 years old, an international student from Syria. I am a 4th year student, majoring in Culture and History.

Why did you choose LAS at UCF?
My choice was inspired by the concept of liberal education and the ability to have intellectual endeavors that eventually will make sense in their own way.

Why did you choose your Major?
I chose Culture and History as a major because it well fits my interest in understanding the anthropological and philosophical underpinnings of human interactions, with having enough space for creative reflection and unique learning experience.

Did you study abroad?
No, but I did many EUCOR courses which I recommend students to consider doing.

When you started, what did you find challenging and/or unexpected?
Starting LAS was very intuitive to me. By closely reading the website and going to one of the open days, something deep down in me was convinced that this is the right step to take. A challenge to me was, therefore, how to realistically address this intuition and academically realize it.

What is the strongest point of the LAS program?
The many personal and intellectual skills you learn, develop, and shape during the program.

What are typical misconceptions of LAS?
That it will cancel so much of the hesitancy of not knowing what to choose by doing a bit of everything.

Are you part of a committee?
Nope, but I enjoyed helping them when they needed help.

What is the most fun course you've taken?
Beer and Wine as a craft/Excursion to Greece were two very fun courses.
