Mathias Hempfling - EPICUR Project Manager

Mathias Hempfling joined the EPICUR team as a project manager at University College Freiburg (UCF) in September 2021. Previously, he studied Governance / Social Sciences at University College Freiburg and University College Maastricht, graduating with a double Bachelor in Liberal Arts and Sciences. In the context of his two Bachelor theses, he conducted research into different aspects of European higher education.

Next to his studies, Mathias gained various insights into higher education. He held several student assistant positions at UCF and in the university administration (Uni Freiburg) as well as at Maastricht University’s (UM) Faculty of Science and Engineering. As a student representative, Mathias was a member of different university governance bodies, such as Senate (Uni Freiburg), Faculty Board (UM) or Student Board (EPICUR). He has also acted as a reviewer for the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education (Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre).

As project manager for the EPICUR European Universities Initiative, he is responsible for developing and piloting innovative teaching and learning formats as well as supporting bottom-up student activities.
